Designer Alert: Elva Fields

elva
1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6

I am in complete awe over Elva Fields' hand-crafted statement necklaces. Besides the intricacy of their being hand-made, designer & owner Emily Maynard scours local flea markets, auctions & shops for unusual vintage & antique pieces to use as the ingredients. Making each piece unique & giving each it's very own story. Finding jewelry designers with their own aesthetic & genuine love for that they do is really special. The name alone, named after Elizabeth's grandmother, speaks volumes. You have to check out all of her gorgeous one of a kind creations. You will truly be blown away.

Another thing that I love about Elva Fields Jewelry, besides the gorgeous jewelry & impecable attention to detail, is that it gives back. Emily donates $3 of each sale on Elva Fields' website to Backpack Buddies of Spencer County. You can read more about Elva Fields & this organization here.

Vogue: The Best Street Style of 2012

Let's face it. We all know the real fashion show at Fashion Week is the "Street Style" outside of the shows. As fashion lovers, we scour the tents and/or internet for the best of the best when it comes to up and coming trends, the over-the-top & the demure. Street style has become a fashion religion & I am a devout follower. Vogue has compiled a slideshow of their favorite Street Style looks of 2012. While my favorites are captured above, check out the full slideshow of Vogue's Best Street Style of 2012 here.

East vs West

Thank you, Refinery29, for bringing these incredible earrings to my attention. I have been searching for East Coast/West Coast rivalry closure my entire life & I feel I have finally found it in these East vs West Stud Earrings.

As Leroy's Place Etsy Shop so eloquently states:

"Together at last! Now, The East Coast/Weat Coast rivalry can play out on either side of your head with these acrylic earrings!"

I completely get it & I commend Leroy's creative efforts. But frankly, I believe these fantastic specimens represent "love," not war. My heart & soul wants to believe Biggie & Tupac found peace not only with themselves, but with each other in that big "Gangsta Paradise" in the sky.

Just knowing that Biggie & Tupac can live peacefully on my ears makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. Cuz it ain't nothin' but a gangsta party after all, right?

Oscar knows best...

Charlotte Olympia for Art Basel Miami

The work of Mondrian, Van Gogh, Hodgkin, Jackson Pollock, Picasso & Litchenstein are alive and kickin' in shoe form! Leave it to Charlotte Olympia to turn her famous Dolly, into walking Twentieth century art. The incredibly talented designer did just that for Art Basel Miami.
These, very limited edition, masterpieces are available exclusively at the Neiman Marcus in the Bal Harbour Shops.

I am completely enamored with this collections. Don't you think this would be an amazing exhibit in the MoMa?

Which shoe is your favorite?

Pantone 2013 Color Of The Year: Emerald Green

Mazel Tov, Emerald Green. You are Pantone's 2013 color of the year!
Sorry kids, but come January it's time to put your Tangerine Tango away & step inside the lush & elegant emerald city. I have been a fan of this gorgeous jewel-tone for as long as I can remember. I especially love the way emerald green pops with my brunette hair & dark features. It's such a lovely & rich! Emerald Green could not be a more perfect color for 2013.

"Most often associated with brilliant, precious gemstones, the perception of Emerald is sophisticated and luxurious. Since antiquity, this luminous, magnificent hue has been the color of beauty and new life in many cultures and religions. Also the color of growth, renewal and prosperity, no other color conveys regeneration more than green. For centuries, many countries have chosen green to represent healing and unity" - Pantone.

Holiday Windows 2012: The BG Follies

David Hoey & the rest of the Bergdorf Goodman visual team did an incredible job with this year's Bergdorf Goodman Hoilday Windows. I am completely enamored with all things 1920's Art Deco style & driving by these windows last night gave me an uncontrollable amount of goose bumps. The BG Follies of 2012 pays homage to all things Ziegfeld Follies, Veudeville & Busby Berkley brilliantly. These windows have been a full year in the making.

Act I

Act II

Act III

Act IV

Act V

"There’s our black and white homage to Marilyn Monroe in Billy Wilder’s Some Like It Hot(complete with silver ukulele) featuring a bird’s eye view of fashion from Marc Jacobs, 3.1 Phillip and Elie Saab (among others) in Act I: By Request.  Most impressive in this Act is its bird’s eye perspective onto the scene — it’s a trick beloved in the display world and is one our visual team enjoys sharing with its Fifth Avenue audience.
Called Naughty and NiceAct II is a tribute to burlesque performer Sally Rand, inventor of the risque fan dance.  Entirely white, the solo act exemplifies our visual team’s obsessive artistry: it’s covered in thousands (if not millions) of white feathers.  The feathers are used as a mosaic and was constructed feather by feather.  Every year our windows feature an antique collection of sorts (you may recall the twisting stairs from the Alice in Wonderland windows from a few years ago) and Act III showcases a collection of mid-century miniature American mannequins once used for display and merchandising, as well as for sewing practice.  David spends months (if not years) building up these collections until the time is right, and this was the year to debut his miniature mannequins as 1920s Ziegfeld Follies girls on fifteen miniature stage reproductions made from replica 18th-Century wood moulding inA Cast of a Thousands.
Act IV, our Daredevil Act, is Fifth Avenue’s novelty act featuring a runway look from Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen’s Spring 2013 runway collection.  As David said, every show needs a novelty act, and ours highlights 24 plaster dogs performing every trick under the sun.  Our windows are a practice in making the impossible possible — in twisting complexities to new levels by using old-world craftsmanship and artistry.  Every surface of Act IV is covered in gold and silver leaf.  While many Holiday Windows feature moving objects and contraptions, ours rarely are seen in motion.  For our Finale
Act V is the result of an idea brewing over the past year: a giant mirrored, rotating kaleidoscope.  Prototypes were sketched and developed until the team discovered that beveled mirrors moving in both clockwise and counterclockwise movement created the best result.  Approximately 1,000 individually beveled mirrors were used to create this kaleidoscope set into motion by 7 separate rotating motors.  The effect should be dizzying, psychedelic… an homage to Busby Berkeley’s overhead kaleidoscopic camera shot seen in Footlight Parade.  To complement the mirrored effect in this duo act are two custom-created gowns from Naeem Khan.  Every year Naeem works with our visual team to dream up a dress for our Holiday Windows and this year’s creations dance in a way that mimics Berkeley’s famous waterfall number." - 5th/58th

You can instagram Bergdorf Goodman's holiday windows with the tag #BGWindows for your chance to win a holiday window prop or print from The Coveteur's behind the scenes feature.
